Breaking through barriers for women and girls

AAUW PA 2011-2012 Awards and Recognitions

The state board has decided to revamp the awards and recognitions program for this year.  The Emerging Star and Humanitarian awards will be retired; other awards are being revised or clarified, so please read the current criteria.  Please note that all branch submissions will be recognized by AAUW PA. Revised forms will be available for download in the table below.

Outstanding Woman

Recipients are chosen by each branch. Outstanding Woman is awarded to a member of a branch for meritorious service to the branch and to the community over multiple years. It is up to the branch to determine if they wish to award it to a person more than once.    The name of the recipient, a photo, and one sentence about the recipient should be submitted by February 15 to Suzanne Kerlin. >> Download the Form

Branch TEAL Award: This recognition is for a recent-term contribution by an unsung branch hero or a branch member exemplifying the spirit of AAUW.  This new award honors a member who made a big difference in something important to the branch within the last year.   The recipient is chosen by the branch and need not be a branch officer or committee chair.  Forms, including name, photo, and a sentence about the contribution should be submitted by February 15 to Linda Tozier. >> download form

Branch Highlights:

This replaces the branch recognition awards in previous years and is not an award but a summary of an event, process, change or initiative that the branch is willing to share with other branches and memorialize for posterity.  The summary is limited to one or two paragraphs, and it is recommended that the branch focus on one specific item (two max) from their year…you may wish to comment on something old that’s still working, something new you’ve tried (in organization, program, policy, recruiting members), something borrowed or adapted, something teal or blue or something else you’re proud to report or think would help others.   These reports should be submitted by February 15 to Linda Tozier.  We reserve the right to edit for space.

To foster sharing, a poster about your highlight is welcome at the convention, where we hope to decorate a room with AAUW wisdom.

Gateway to Equity

This branch award recognizes someone in the community who has advanced equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, or research.  The award is traditionally given on March 8, International Women’s Day.  No changes have been made.  Most branches watch for items in the news in the fall, select their awardee in January or February, inform the recipient and arrange a time to present the certificate, issue a press release, and send the info for inclusion in the PA Convention yearbook.  Reports should be submitted by March 8 to Toni Simmers. >> Download Form

Special Honorees:  If your branch has a longstanding member you believe should receive a special award, please tell us!  Contact Margaret McGrath, mcgrathaauwpa@gmail.com.

Forms will be published as soon as the become available.
